Coaching Capability Audit

How strong are your coaching skills as a leader? Use the audit below to assess your strengths and gaps, and identify where to focus on improving your coaching mindset, skills and conversations.

Coaching Capability Audit

Most leaders think they coach more than they do. That's human. When you're busy, telling people what to do feels quicker than helping them work it out.

This audit gives you an honest picture of where you are today. Score yourself against 20 coaching behaviours across five stages. It takes about 10 minutes, and your heat map builds as you go.

It's a self-assessment, so score what you actually do most of the time, especially when you're under pressure. The more honest you are, the more useful your results will be.

Pick the version that fits your role: Manager, Leader or Exec. Score all 20 and we'll email you your full results, with a link back to your heat map.

Stage totals out of 20: 4-9 Emerging, 10-14 Developing, 15-17 Established, 18-20 Role model. Each version is built for a different level: managers build their own coaching skills, leaders spread coaching through their managers, and execs shape the culture and systems across the organisation.

FAQs

What is the Coaching Capability Audit?

A free self-assessment that shows how often you use 20 core coaching behaviours, across five stages. As you score, it builds a heat map of where coaching is a strength for you and where it slips, especially under pressure.

Who is it for?

Anyone who leads people. There are three versions: Manager, for people who lead a team of individual contributors; Leader, for senior leaders who lead other managers; and Exec, for executive and C-suite leaders who shape the organisation.

Which version should I pick?

Pick the one that matches your role today. If you lead other managers, choose Leader, even if you also have a few direct reports of your own. Each version measures what coaching looks like at that level.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes. Your heat map builds as you go, so you can see the pattern taking shape before you finish.

How is it scored?

You score each statement from 1 (rarely) to 5 (always). Each stage is out of 20 and your overall score is out of 100. Stage totals fall into four bands: Emerging (4-9), Developing (10-14), Established (15-17) and Role model (18-20).

Is this a 360?

No. It’s a self-assessment, so it shows how you see your own coaching, and most leaders score themselves a little more generously than their teams would. If you’d like to hear how your team experiences your coaching, get in touch about 360 feedback with our LQ Report.

Do I have to give you my email?

No. Your heat map, strongest stage and biggest gap are free on screen. If you’d like your full results, including what your pattern suggests and a link back to your heat map, add your email and we’ll send them over.

What happens to my scores?

We store scores anonymously to build a benchmark of coaching capability across organisations. We use your email to send your results, and we’ll only send you our newsletter if you tick the box. We never share individual results. Our privacy policy has the details.

What should I do with my results?

Start with your biggest gap and pick one behaviour to practise in your next few conversations. Small, regular practice beats a one-off course. Take the audit again in three to six months to see what’s changed, and if you’d like help, book a call with us.

Can I use it with my team or a leadership cohort?

Yes. We can set up a link for your organisation, so you can see a group heat map once five or more people have taken part. It’s a good way to shape a leadership programme around real gaps, and to see what’s shifted six months later. Individual results stay anonymous. Get in touch with us to set it up.

I haven’t received my results email. What now?

It usually arrives within a few minutes. Check your spam or promotions folder. If it’s still not there, get in touch and we’ll send your results again.
