OVO Energy is one of the UK’s largest independent energy companies, committed to driving progress toward a sustainable, zero-carbon future. With over 4.5 million customers and a reputation for innovation and bold environmental leadership, OVO combines its mission to decarbonise with a deeply people-centred culture. The organisation is known for being progressive, values-driven, and passionate about developing talent, empowering its leaders and teams to learn, grow, and deliver meaningful impact.
OVO recognised that building a truly great place to work starts with brilliant leaders who act as everyday coaches. As part of this ambition, they rolled out an internal OVO Way of Coaching programme for their leadership community creating 500 internal coaches within a matter of years.
Having already established a strong internal learning culture, OVO’s next step was to embed coaching more deeply into how leaders lead. They were keen to offer Advanced Coaching Skills development for leaders to further codify coaching into their leadership practice.
To bring this vision to life, OVO were keen to partner with an expert in the coaching space. They sought a provider with deep expertise in leadership and behavioural change, a strong brand that mirrored OVO’s progressive culture and the agility to co-create a solution that felt uniquely OVO in tone, energy and design.
The mission was to design and deliver four fully bespoke Advanced Coaching Skills modules that would deepen coaching capability for leaders. We ran a series of Discovery Workshops with the People Development Team at OVO to ensure we were hitting all the right notes.
Designing the content
From these half day workshops we were able to create first drafts of the four modules which highlight best in class coaching tools. We focused on the tools we personally use in our own coaching practices and brought these to life with additional psychological insight into why they work and how to use them in a coaching role. We balanced theory with plenty of group discussion, paired coaching practice and coaching showcases from us as coaches.
Once we were happy with our drafts, we ran a test session with the People Development team and a handful of leaders for a day of Discovery at their Head Office in Bristol, where we experimented, interrogated and iterated (live!) on the content for each of the four modules.
The final modules were:
Branding
Each module was designed, developed and delivered in full OVO branding, ensuring the experience felt authentic, consistent and culturally aligned. All creative, content and production elements were managed entirely by Coachable, allowing for seamless collaboration and rapid iteration. The OVO brand team even created a bespoke logo for the programme to ensure it stood out to their learner community as something different from internal sessions.
The sessions were delivered virtually in small cohorts of 10–12 leaders, creating an intimate, group-coaching experience that encouraged reflection, connection and peer learning. This approach ensured accessibility and inclusivity, enabling leaders from across the UK to participate and benefit from a consistent, high-impact learning experience. We're continuing to deliver the workshops into 2026 for both the Coaching Leaders Community and specific leadership groups within the business.

“I really liked the format - relaxed but engaging and really valuable. I got a lot out of hearing everybody's commentary and feeling like I could relate to them. I liked the coaching exercise at the end too. I liked that it didn't feel rushed as well.” - Participant
“Thanks for a properly brilliant session yesterday! It's given me so much to think about… OVO needs more of you!” - Participant
